Coil Vessels
Students create a ceramic vessel using hand rolled coils to create their form. Students can choose to blend their coils for a smooth surface, create patterns and texture with the building coils as their surface design, or students can add features like leaves or faces to their pots. Civil war era face jugs and African motif surface design are introduced to Ceramics 1 students to further their design options and expose them to cultural and historical influences in their art.
